The university city of Lausanne (almost 120 000 inhabitants) is a perfect example of Swiss tradition when it comes to education and further education. In this middle sized city you won't have any trouble to make contact with the locals. The cafés with their terraces and the typical small restaurants are a very popular meeting point. With the car or the train, you can be in Geneva within half an hour, home to many international organisations, and with the TGV you can be in Paris in less than four hours.
