Salvador
Salvador da Bahia
Salvador is the third biggest city in Brasil and was the capital city until 1763. Today about 2.8 million inhabitants live in this pulsating city. Famous people and groups such as the musicians Olodum, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso and Jorge Amado represent Salvador. There are also many other attractions here such as the renovated old city center Pelourinho with its colourful architecture and the beautiful people that stroll laughing through the narrow street lanes. Enjoy the rhythm of the music, Samba, Pagode or Olodum at one of the many dance and music events, or simply from your open window. Admire the beautiful beaches, that are only 5 minutes away from the school and enjoy fresh coconut on the beach at sunset.
An annual highlight is the Carneval in Salvador de Bahia. The biggest street carneval in the world lasts 6 days and 6 nights. The festival begins on Thursday evening before Ash Wednesday and by Asch Wednesday hundreds of thousands of people have flocked onto the streets. The streets are blocked for almost 20 km for the main parade, the sea promonade and the inner city as well.
