Florenz
Its rich history and a dynamic development that is currently taking place, makes Florence into one of the most famous cities in the world today. Every year millions of tourists flock to Florence to see the absolutely beautiful old part of the city with its picturesque laneways, the famous Palazzi and an uncountable number of art and cultural monuments from the past. The population of Florence is about 400 000, the perfect size - you can keep an overview of the city, and discover everything by foot - and you still have a great variety of culture and entertainment available in an international tourist center.
Florenz is a major center for Italian art. In the Middle Ages and in the Renaissance magnificent pieces of art were constructed by artists, apprentices, and writers that has never, or very rarely been exceeded in brilliance. Florence was the home of artists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo as well as poets like Dante and Boccaccio. Even today you will find their work in this city in Tuscany: large squares, palazzi, monuments, churches and museums.
Florence also has a lot to offer shopping enthusiasts: from modern clothes to valueable leather goods at very reasonable prices, and souvenirs.
The River Arno splits the city into two parts. There are many bridges, the Ponte Vecchio being the most well known throughout the world. In the many restaurants you can experience the hospitality of the south, the way of life and naturally the excellent Toscanian food. The best way to discover the innercity is definitely by foot.
