St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg
Also known as the 'Venice of the North', St Petersburg was founded at the beginning of the 18th century on a drawing board. It developed very quickly and was the capital city of Russia for a long time. The elaborate architecture mirrored the glamour of the tsaristocrates, like no other city.
Today, almost 300 years later, St. Petersburg is a city of science and technology, of culture and with almost 5 million inhabitants, the second biggest city in Russia.
