The school has an excellent infrastructure with bright, spacious classrooms, a private entrance to the school, a large common area and a student resource center. There is also a self-study room with computers, as well as, internet access. There is a supervisor to assist students, to help them select the appropriate study material. Furthermore, students have free internet access in the Cyber Lounge, and those students with laptops benefit from the free wireless or cable connections.

Host Family
You live with a painstakingly selected host family in a single room with half-board. By speaking with your host family, you can practice your English, while getting an overview of the Canadian way of life. The school is approximately 45-60 minutes away by public transportation.
For an additional price, the school can arrange for accommodations with a host family that offers a private bath and/or internet access.

YWCA Residence
The residence is suitable for students, who are looking for individual, central accommodations in Vancouver. You have the choice between a single room with a semi-private bath or with shower/WC on the floor. Each room has a small refrigerator, bed, desk and sink. The bed linens and towels are changed weekly and the room is cleaned once a week. The residence has a community kitchen, lounge with a TV and laundry facilities (internet with wireless LAN is available; charges are payable on site). The YWCA is approximately 10 minutes by foot from school.

Leisure time

Vancouver is the ideal starting place for countless undertakings. The school organizes a variety of activities in the evenings and weekend trips to relaxing places like, for example, Whistler, Victoria and Vancouver Island (famous for whale watching) or Seattle. In addition, there are many sporting activities or city tours, cultural entertainment, visits to museums or dance evenings in the free-time program. Participation is voluntary and costs extra. Activities may be booked and paid for at the school.

The School

Language Studies Canada (LSC) is the leading Canadian language school organization with schools in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary. LSC is the oldest, private language school for foreigners in Canada. The schools were founded in 1962 in Montréal, in 1977 in Toronto, 1988 in Vancouver and in 2002, the school in Calgary opened. In just a short time, the school has become one of the most popular in the city. In the mid-90's, the school was bursting at the seams, therefore, more space was needed. So, in 1998, the school moved into a newly renovated office building in the shopping and banking district of the city center. The school is in an optimal location, near numerous shops and restaurants and only a short distance from the sea. All major public transportation can be accessed nearby: bus, skytrain and seabus - a way that many of the students reach the school.

Each year, the school educates 350 - 500 sutdents. On the one hand, with this number of students, the school can offer you the optimal training level, while on the other hand, the school is still small enough to be able to maintain a personal atmosphere. In addition, Language Studies Canada offers many other advantages. Especially worth mentioning is the mother-language quota. Vancouver, is one of the closest North American cities to the Pacific Rim. Therefore, there are many people from Asia, who have moved to Vancouver. English courses are very popular with people who have moved to Vancouver from Asia. Practically every school in Vancouver has many students from Asia - most have more than 80%. LSC limits the number of students from one language group, thus, keeping the percentage of students from each mother-tongue more balanced. These percentages apply to the general English courses, not for the school as a whole or for individual classes. There are more Swiss students in the exam preparation courses than in the other classes.
With these percentage limitations, the school has an above average international mix of students, and an unusually high number of non-Asian course participants. This policy has earned the school much popularity in Europe and South America, hence it has a more mixed composition of students.

The school has earned a lead position in Cambridge courses, as well. LSC regularly prepares record-breaking numbers of students in Vancouver for the internationally recognized exams. As one of the few schools in Canada to offer these classes, it has a high success rate and excellent exam results.
